It’s a little late to be jumping on the World of Warcraft bandwagon, but it’s safe to say that there are still quite a few addicted dedicated players out there in dire need of a headset. You know, to keep their roommates from going batty as they stay up all night congregating with digital friends and “leveling up.” Anywho, Creative Labs has just put its latest headset up for pre-order on Amazon, with a wired version listed at $119.99 and a wireless rendition priced at $40 more. According to the product listing, the latter relies on a 2.4GHz signal, and both of ‘em utilize THX TruStudio PC technology in order to split your mind wide open with pure aural bliss. There’s nary a mention of a ship date just yet, but you know you’re fixing to get your pre-order in now to avoid missing out. Er, you will right after you slay one… more… enemy….

Navigon keeps MobileNavigator iPhone app fresh with 3D terrain views, Facebook / Twitter integration

Hey, software engineers of all shapes and sizes — are you keeping an eye on this? Navigon is releasing yet another significant update for its continually improving MobileNavigator iPhone GPS app, and at this point, we reckon these guys and gals should get some sort of medal for pursuing innovation on an existing product rather than leaping to “the next best thing.” The latest refresh adds in three primary features: 3D terrain views, a 3D panorama view ($9.99 extra) and in-app connectivity with Facebook and Twitter. As you’d expect, the latter enables users to broadcast current position, destination and ETA to social media outlets, which should make existing Foursquare addicts overwhelmed with joy. Version 1.5.0 also throws in MyRoutes, which is said to analyze your driving habits, patterns, location and time / day in order to provide “up to three routes clearly displayed in-map with ETA, distance and driving times for each.” Best of all? It’s just $69.99 ($20 less than normal) until February 15th, while the real-time traffic add-on is reduced $5 to $19.99 for the same duration.

DIY scanner cuts out the hassle, keeps the fun of Super 8 film scanning

Looking to speed up your Super 8 film scanning but not ready to step up to a pricey, professional rig? Then might want to take after Flickr user Photobsen, who rigged up this system that relies on an old floppy drive, a flatbed scanner, some parts from a vintage Super 8 viewer, and a good bit of know-how. Unfortunately, there’s no detailed plans for building your own, but the rig is apparently able to scan Super 8 film at a rate of 80 seconds of film per hour completely unattended — although we wouldn’t blame you if you sat and admired your handiwork for a while after piecing one of these together.

Aerotel GeoSKeeper looks stylish, keeps mummi from wandering too far away

Have a grandmother or grandfather who tends to go for afternoon walks and somehow winds up on the other side of town? Does that town happen to be in Finland? Aerotel GeoSKeeper system could be your saving grace, a wrist-worn cellphone and GPS combo device that allows for others to keep tabs on the location of the wearer. It was announced back in 2008 and is now going live in Finland courtesy of EcoTec, where families can set up safe zones and receive alerts whenever the wearer decides to wander outside of them, which is reassuring — so long as you’re not the one wearing the thing. Calls can be made to doctors or family with the press of a button should something go wrong, and apparently you can even receive text messages somehow. The one thing it can’t do? Tell time. If you’re going to make someone wear something like this, the least you could do is build a watch into the thing!

Evolution Robotics Mint bot is the Swiffer of Roombas, keeps track of its positioning

If you haven’t figured out how to clean your floor robotically by now, you might be a lost cause, but Evolution Robotics is willing to give it a try with its new Mint machine. The bot uses regular Swiffer pads, and is designed for cleaning hard floors with a shove of the wet-nap. Outside of its lack of vacuum, the Mint also differentiates itself with its “NorthStar” positioning tech, which lets the bot keep track of its exact location with GPS-style tech, relative to a base station, ensuring that it hits every spot and doesn’t waste time with random meandering. Mint should hit retail in Q4 of this year for under $250. Check out a video of it in action after the break.
